A Stunning Japanese Ryokan in the Heart of Tokyo

An ochanoma lounge at Hoshinoya Tokyo. All photos courtesy of Hoshinoya Resorts. A stay at Tokyo's first luxury ryokan did not disappoint. Fathom editor Berit Baugher checked into the city's most talked about new hotel. TOKYO – On a recent visit to Japan I checked into Hoshinoya Tokyo , one of the city's newest and most exciting hotel openings . Styled after a traditional Japanese inn , also known as a ryokan , the quiet 84- room hotel feels worlds away from the busy streets of Tokyo. Historically, ryokans are low-key affairs with minimal furnishings and services, shared bathrooms, and no heating or air conditioning. Hoshinoya Tokyo embraces the tradition of simplicity, but through an elevated and luxurious lens, differentiating it from other urban ryokans. I found this recipe and but didn’t love everything about it.  I want to add some color, more complex flavors, and after trying the recipe, they turned out really dry and crumbly.  LAME.  SO I  did some...

Baby Shower Gifts: Bath Time Theme

Image
Welcome to our second feature in our Baby Shower Gifts series . These gifts today are all about bath time! Although Baby won’t be taking baths regularly for a few months, that doesn’t mean that you can’t shop with that theme in mind. In fact, some of the cutest gifts are all about the baths. Plus, with water safety being so important, I think that this can be a very practical theme gift as well. As with each of the posts in this series, I will present a $30, $50, and $100 budget bundle. That way, you are sure to find some items that fit your comfort level. Before you start shopping based on my recommendations, I would highly encourage you to check your soon-to-be mama’s registry. Although these are products that I like and recommend, there is a reason she spent hours on her swollen feet, roaming the aisles of her baby store with a registry scanner in hand, trying to hold off on hobbling over to the restroom. If at all possible, get the items that she has requested, as she has probab...
