Why We Didn't Build A True "Master Bath"

Image
Over the past 6 years of sharing various home renovations, I have been asked SO many questions about Dave and my bathroom, and (more specifically) why we didn’t re-work our plans to create a true en suite with the master bath directly off our master bedroom. As you can see by the image above, our bathroom is only a couple steps from our bedroom door — so definitely not super inconvenient for us at all. However, since I get so many questions about this one issue, I figured I’d share the many reasons we chose not to give ourselves a true “master bath”. Now that you can visualize what our bedroom and bathroom look like, here are main reasons we chose to keep our bathroom separate from our bedroom. 1. We have more usable space. Both our bedroom and our bathroom have more usable space with separate doorways that lead into our short hallway than if we would have tried to make a doorway off our bedroom going directl...

From 90’s to Now: Guest Bathroom Makeover Before + After

Before and afters are the very best, aren’t they?! Our little guest bathroom has undergone a great transformation that I can’t wait to show you. Even with those updates over the last 25 years, most of the house still feels a bit dated. We’ve spent the past year slowly making changes to bring a more modern, current feel to our home. The little bathroom was next on the list. This little windowless bathroom sits right off the kitchen and is the only bathroom on the m...

The key to designing a bathroom is to keep it clean and simple. Read on for our interior design tips ! Make a scale drawing of the room and play around with the various positions of the bath, shower, loo and basin. Beware of non-matching sanitaryware because, even if all the fittings are white, the shades can vary dramatically. While they can be impractical, corner and offset baths can sometimes make good use of space and remember you can choose where to position taps. In a room too small for a separate shower , you can still create a good showering experience by fitting a good quality shower door to the bath. Ideally, every bath needs a bath/shower mixer with a hose attachment to clean it and for washing hair. I'd be wary of substituting a shower for a bath in a one-bathroom property, though stand-alone shower rooms work well as a second bathroom option. A bathroom is one area where you can really release your design dreams but, if  you're planning on ever selling, the key ...
