30 Exquisite and Inspired Bathrooms with Stone Walls

Image
The idea of a stone wall in the bathroom is nothing new in itself and has obviously been around for ages. But the last few decades have seen homeowners move from more modest and rustic alternatives to stylish and polished options that ooze an air of opulence. While the 90s saw design and decorating trends shift towards simplicity, clean straight lines , muted colors such as beige, and a look that fits in with the idea of modernity, that has drastically changed with the turn of the millennium. Sleek, spa-inspired bathrooms are still sought-after, but today’s consumer wants a blend of the contemporary and the classic – a combination that has revived the popularity of the stone wall . When it comes to stone walls in the bathroom, few come close to the timeless allure and sheer elegance of marble. But today we take a look at inspirations beyond marble that range from the downright rustic to those that find space even in the most modern bathrooms. Organic, beautiful and unique, the stone ...

Bathroom Exhaust Fans | GreenBuildingAdvisor.com

Older homes often lack bathroom exhaust fans . In the old days, if the bathroom was smelly or steamy, you were supposed to open a window to air it out. This isn’t a very logical ventilation method , especially when temperatures are below zero, or when the weather is 90°F and humid. Yet this time-honored method of bathroom ventilation is still enshrined in our building codes. According to the 2009 International Residential Code (sections R303.3 and M1507.3), a bathroom with an operable window does not need to have a bath exhaust fan . Why do we need exhaust fans? A bath exhaust fan can perform several functions: It can exhaust smelly air , allowing fresher air to enter the bathroom. It can exhaust humid air , allowing dryer air to enter the bathroom. When operated for 24 hours per day or when controlled by a timer, it can act (in so...

Bathroom Makeover

I think this next home project will be the first one I’ve shared with you guys since moving to Texas. We moved at the very end of May and have enjoyed starting fresh on a new house with lots of fun projects. We’re pretty much working on a part of the house each weekend, and the past week it has been our Guest Bathroom. Let me begin by saying that although our house isn’t very old, everything (and I mean everything, including the ceilings) was TAN… and had brass fixtures. Yeah, not my cup of tea, so we have now painted EVERY room, all the oak-colored cabinets, the ceiling and have changed all of the cabinet knobs and door knobs. It’s slowly starting to feel like home and I can’t wait to show you more pictures. Today, I will be showing you our Guest Bathroom Makeover . In a nutshell, we painted the walls (didn’t have a pic of it beforehand), changed out all the light fixtures , painted the cabinets, changed the cabinet knobs, made a DIY Framed Mirror , and added some cute wall decor . H...

We’re making progress in the A-frame bathroom! Through the designing, demolition and re-building of so many bathrooms, I have learned a thing or two along the way but working with this bathroom proves there are always room for surprises. I’ve also never installed or designed a bathroom with quite so much technology, but that ended up being the easy part. I teamed up with Kohler to share the process and a few do’s and don’ts that I used through this remodel. First the progress: We cleared out the old toilet and replaced it with an intelligent toilet. A self-opening, self-flushing, heated seat, cleansing toilet that basically does everything for you! A techy toilet that also leaves you with a cleaner feeling just seems more natural and makes more sense to me. It also goes beautifully with the bath we picked out. The thing I love most about Kohler’s Veil toilet and the Underscore bath) is that they both have such high tech features yet they don’t compromise at all on the design. The toil...
