We all like to take a little time out from a busy week for ourselves when we can. One of my favorite ways to pamper myself is to soak in the tub with some really nice bath salts after a hard day’s work. Here are my simple recipes for bath salts, sugar scrubs and  bath oils. Most of the ingredients I use come from my pantry or local grocery store.

Herbal Bath Salts

1 ½ cups Epsom salts

½ cup flaky sea salt

3 tablespoons dried chamomile leaves (found in natural food area in groceries bulk or use tea bags cut open)

3 tablespoons. dried rose hips or hibiscus flowers (found in natural food area of groceries in bulk or use tea bags cut open)

A few drops of tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil – grocery stores in cosmetics or pharmacy

  1. Mix Epsom salts and sea salts together in a bowl. Toss in dried flowers or leaves and mix together well. Sprinkle a few drops of the oil over all and toss together well. Store your scented bath salt in airtight jars. Just add a sprinkle to a hot bath and enjoy the soak. Makes 2 cups.

Note: This makes a great  gift. Just add a decorative label, a bit of ribbon or raffia and tie on a wooden spoon or scoop and you have a great presentation.

Oooh La La Sugar Scrub

2 cups granular raw sugar such as turbinado

½ cup Vitamin E Oil (found in the grocery store pharmacy or cosmetic department or drug stores)

½ cup JoJoba Oil (found in the grocery store pharmacy or cosmetic department or drug stores)

A few drops of grapefruit 100% pure essential oil (found at natural foods grocery stores, supermarket  pharmacy or drug stores)

  1. In a glass or ceramic bowl, mix together the sugar, Vitamin E and Jojoba oil. Stir to mix.
  2. Sprinkle about 12 drops of the grapefruit oil over all and blend together well.
  3. Spoon sugar scrub into air tight jars until ready to use. Makes 2 cups.

How to use: In the shower exfoliate your skin by scrubbing in a circular motion. The sugar scrub will get rid of dry flaky skin and the oil will leave your skin feeling soft. After doing the scrub, finish your shower as usual. Your skin will have a fresh citrusy scent.

Lemongrass Bath Oil

1 cup Vitamin E oil or Jojoba oil

A few drops of lemongrass 100% essential oil

A few drops of tea tree oil

A few leaves of fresh lemon grass or fresh lemon peel

  1. Pour oil into a glass bottle. Add lemongrass oil and tea treee oils. Swish bottle around to mix.
  2. Add leaves of lemon grass or lemon peel to bottle. Add a pour stopper.

Note: Pour stoppers can be found in groceries where cocktail mixers are sold.
