What’s inside this pristine Gambrel only moments from Beverly Farms Village, West Beach and the commuter train — an exceptionally livable floor plan that includes spacious rooms and custom updates by Siemasko & Verbridge — admittedly ratchets up the urge to rush through the door to see it all. Take your time!

Check out a beautiful (and newly installed) front patio. This roomy outdoor haven is guaranteed to become a favorite summer spot for everyone. A nearby grilling "deck" is the ultimate convenience.

Now let’s go in

An enclosed front porch that is the width of the house is a delightful variation on a venerable Yankee tradition: the vestibule. A great space to welcome guests or to linger at the end of a visit, this indoor/outdoor spot is also a comfortable place to relax when Mother Nature is having an off day.

Although the layout is strictly contemporary, the fully open living-dining room is filled with traditional elements like bull’s eye trim and double crown molding. A large bay window area adds character but the fireplace with a beautifully detailed quarter sawn oak mantel topped by a beveled mirror is a showpiece. Oh, the fireplace has a gas insert.

Incidentally, every fireplace in this home — there are three — is quarter-sawn oak (whether painted or not) and has a beveled mirror over the mantel.

A twin bay window is in the spacious dining area that seats a minimum of six to eight. Expansion on demand/need is easy to accomplish. A storage closet tucked under the inside staircase is another charming feature in this open space.

From here a pocket door opens to the eat-in kitchen that has a built-in table with banquette seating directly opposite another fireplace — this one has a decorative tile surround and a gas insert. Pantry cupboards flank the fireplace.

Thoroughly modern, the kitchen proper has all the bells and whistles including a pot filler over the gas stove. An extra-large stainless steel sink complements contemporary subway tile on the backsplash, granite countertops and beautiful cabinetry (with glass- and closed-front doors).

A large, bright office just off the kitchen includes a built-in desk with overhead glass-front cabinetry but this is only one example of the impressive multi-purpose aspect of the area of the house. In addition to a nearby butler’s pantry, a mini passageway that includes a powder room with a pocket door leads to a massive front-to-back family room with double crown molding, bull’s eye trim and detailed bump boards.

A spacious mudroom, which is accessible from a "back" deck, is well-organized with drawers under floor-to-ceiling cabinets/closets. A built-in bench, open cubbies and an easy-maintenance tile floor ratchet up the functionality of this space.

Life upstairs

The master suite that runs front-to-back at the top of the inside staircase — this venerable architectural feature was thoughtfully placed to maximize floor space — is not only big (as in very) but also is very attractive. The mantel and surround on the gas fireplace is especially beautiful and bull’s eye trim is a subtle traditional detail.

A big walk-in closet with a handy bench is all 21st Century in terms of function. Open cubbies and specialized hanging spaces eliminate any storage concerns.

The en suite bathroom is also very much at home in today’s world with a radiant heated floor, a large fully tiled walk-in shower and a soaking tub. A floor-to-ceiling cupboard works as a medicine/linen closet.

A full linen closet is in the hall, too.

Size, as in big, is a hallmark of the two remaining bedrooms on this level. One, in fact, is exceptionally large. However, space is only one perk. Both rooms have interesting features.

The big back bedroom has a pocket door to a very large lighted walk-in closet; so does the other bedroom. This one, however, has a built-in flush-mount bookcase.

A shared bathroom has a tub/shower combination with a subway tile surround.

That attention to detail was an important in the overall update/renovation plan is very evident on this floor. Period features like double crown molding and trimmed bump boards are continued throughout the second floor.

Some extras

Although laundry facilities are currently in the basement, moving then to the first floor is an option. An ideal spot would be just off the kitchen.

Another plus: the basement has a partially finished room ready and waiting to be used.
