A bathroom with character, slimy character

We're looking for flat nightmares of the Kiwi kind. Tiffany Burke's place in Christchurch came with pets - slimy pets.

We lived for a time in a 100-year-old villa that had been split into a duplex. Our side was just a one-bedroom place.

The whole place was hideous, but the bathroom was the worst. It had mouldy, old carpet and black mould covering the ceiling.

It had one of those ancient-looking clawfoot baths with a terrible shower attachment. The rubber stoppers were always falling off the taps so mid-shower and it would pop off, spraying all over your feet from the bath taps.

But the very, very worst of it was, in winter time, for some reason, we'd get big fat slugs coming in from a small gap between the bottom of the wall and the floor.

You could see the slime trails they left and sometimes come across the critters still going on their merry way.

Mushrooms would also grow under the bath. So gross!
