My Summer Internship With Dr. Leo Marvin

Image
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice! But, how do you stay a success? Let’s ask Dr. Leo Marvin! If my summer has had a personal theme, it’s been the dangers of success and owning who you are. I’m a proud baldy who’s scared of the power of the American Dream and loves comedy more than action. Okay, that’s a bit silly. I really have been thinking about success all summer. I’ve achieved a couple goals I’ve been pursuing for a decade, which is as exciting as it is scary. In the light of all this, I read a terrific interview with Richard Dreyfuss . He’s so bombastic and cock-sure, even as he criticizes himself for being too bombastic and cock-sure. Two comments in particular resonated with me. In one, he recalls an early audition where he reveled pridefully in losing a gig because he mouthed-off to a director. “It was [a high-risk strategy] but I was filled with self‑confidence and, I now see, self‑delusion.” The other came when discussing the failure of his first marriage. “And that wa...

SO FRESH & SO CLEAN: Art adds tons of class to a bathroom ... just make sure you have good extraction. Cindy McClure, who works her aesthetic magic at Washington firm Grossmueller 's Design, is one of the US' top interior designers . Here she answers questions about renovating bathrooms ...  I'd like to remodel my very small master bathroom by removing the tub and replacing it with a walk-in shower. Will this affect selling potential down the road? What I am finding is that more owners are looking for more luxurious showers rather than tubs in the master. In speaking with real estate agents that I know, so long as there is another bathroom with a tub, it doesn't hurt resale and can even help to have a great shower. We have a bathroom without a fan. It has a window, but we never open it (it's in the shower - that is the last place I'd want to open a window). I always see framed artwork in bathrooms in shelter magazines. How practical is this in rooms with ...

3 Essentials for Organizing a Dorm or Apartment Bathroom

Image
Bathroom organization " src="https://www.collegefashion.net/.image/t_share/MTI4ODM3MDIzNTczMjc0NTk0/bathroom-organization.jpg" /> Photo Credit Ah, the good old bathroom . In your early days, it was the place to experiment with wacky hairstyles and play with your mom's lipstick. In middle school, you learned not to venture into it alone ( remember what happened to Hermione? ), and it became the place to meet for secret conversations with your BFFs. Of course, when you got to college, your preconceived notions about bathroom etiquette were probably overturned by your first day. For those of you in residence halls, the initial thrill (or fear) of having a co- ed bathroom wore off in about thirty seconds, and now you try to spend as little time as possible there. However, as college women, there are plenty of ways for us to stay organized (and clean) in shared bathroom situations . In this article, we'll list  three essentials for dorm room (or apartment!) b...

Simple ways to make your bathroom accessible

If using your bathroom is a daily pain, then following these simple tips from bathroom specialist Clos -O-Mat will make life a lot easier. Regardless of ‘ability’, 20% of adults have difficulty doing everyday tasks, including carrying out their personal care. Using functional rooms, such as the bathroom, is the second biggest day-to- day problem faced by families with a severely disabled child . Yet the bathroom, cloakroom or toilet (whatever you choose to call it) is the one room you use more than you think – we ‘go’ on average eight times a day! But despite issues, and the frequency with which we face them, many people don’t do anything about it. Our typical British reserve means we often don’t discuss going to the toilet, even with professionals. You might have told your Occupational Therapist that you’re struggling to get out of the chair, but have you admitted to having the same problem getting on and off the toilet? Either way, don’t despair, help is at hand. If you’re struggli...

DIY Chatroom Home Improvement Forum

DIY Chatroom Home Improvement Forum - Venting drain for shower and bath -   Plumbing ( http://www.diychatroom.com/f7/ ) stevetyler 12-30-2014 09:01 AM Venting drain for shower and bath   5 Attachment(s) I seem to have a problem here, I am remodeling a basement bathroom, house was built in 1929, washington state, it has a 4" stack that ties to the existing toilet and sink and shower line but I understand that it is not enough venting. Only had an issue once in the past with shower not draining and liquid plumber fixed it. Unfortunately it looks like I am working with just a 1 1/2" line instead of the required 2" for shower. I want to add a tub to the room and move the shower a bit but pipes are under concrete. If I extend shower I wont have room to add a vent pipe alongside the drain without it sticking out of the floor. Wondering how venting works, if I would need to make a new hole in the roof, I have heard of ...

Pro Tips for Choosing Bathroom Fixtures

Image
When I moved in, my bathroom was outfitted with basic builder grade components that never really went together and to top it all off, they never really worked properly. I just made do with what I had, but over time, I knew I’d have to renovate this space and make it my own. To make the bathroom magic happen , we’ve partnered with TOTO, the Japanese manufacturer  behind those infamous toilets that do everything for you, and to help bring it all together we’ve brought in online interior design platform , Decorilla, specifically, designer Joyce Elizabeth Tranchida . It’s embarrassing to show these but here’s what I’ve been living with… (sad, I know): I hate the glass hand towel light fixture so much I haven’t even replaced the bulb that’s out! The toilet is so basic it doesn’t even have a brand. My basic, boring bathroom needed some modernization, and a brand-new cohesive look as it’s the only bathroom in my home. If you’ve ever looked around at finished bathrooms, you know just how mu...
