How to Get Rid of Steam in the Bathroom

A steam- filled bathroom can lead to excessive moisture buildup , which will eventually encourage mold growth and other health hazards. For this reason it's important to properly ventilate your bathroom after you've taken a shower or had a hot bath. By providing fresh air circulation you will take some of the moisture away, dry the bathroom out quickly, and thus avoid any hazardous mold growth or other problems. Preventing Bathroom Steam Open a window. The easiest way to ventilate a bathroom is to crack a window wide open . This will allow the air to circulate easily and will whisk the steam away. This isn't always possible though, because air that's too cold can make your shower uncomfortable in the winter. Open the bathroom door. While it's always nice to have your privacy in the shower, excessive steam can be abated by leaving the bathroom door open . In combination with a window, this is an excellent way to ventilate a bathroom. Turn on your bathroom venti...

Steam Bath of a Week Ahead - NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports

It's a big weekend with lots of festivities from the Porter Peach Festival to the 1st Annual Center of the Universe Music Festival in downtown Tulsa. We Oklahomans come to expect nothing but hot weather in July, but that does little to minimize the risk of heat-related issues when out and about. As I write this on Saturday afternoon, many areas have heat index values over 100°. Our actual air temperatures are leveling out in the 90s thanks to all of the moisture in the air. That moisture, however, is what makes it feel like a steam bath out there! The steam bath isn 't all that bad when you consider it contributes to scattered afternoon showers and storms that act to cool off the immediate vicinity. The week ahead features daily rain chances , albeit limited, thanks to weak storm systems in the region along with that moisture and heat to fuel the thunderstorms. Even after a week of abundant rainfall across portions of Oklahoma (reason #1 it feels so sticky out there), mu...

All Steamed Up Baltimore | Getting all steamed up in your home

February 16, 1992 | By Rita St. Clair Q: One of the most memorable experiences of my winter vacation occurred in the bathroom of my hotel. Besides the bathtub, there was a shower enclosure that could be converted into a small steam room . Talk about luxury! Tell me, please, is it possible to purchase a device like that for use in my own home? A: I doubt you could buy exactly the same equipment; it's probably manufactured exclusively for commercial establishments. But a few major makers of bathroom fixtures now produce similar devices for residential use. Some of the new steam-and- bath enclosures for the home are self-contained units that can be installed by a plumber. Others may require customized fittings to suit your needs and space limitations, since these units tend to be rather large. One of the more versatile products of this type is manufactured by Kohler. The company's clear- glass shower enclosure with a steam-dome option is shown in the photo. As you can see, it...

And what about that spicy Thai food you ate a few nights ago? Didn't you sweat just a wee bit? Sweat happens. While most of us are secretly mortified at the thought of appearing hot and sweaty in front of our peers, experts say that the clear, salty liquid excreted by our skin is actually good for us. After all, it's the body's way of getting rid of excess body heat , which is produced by metabolism or working muscles. "Our bodies have a natural system in place to prevent overheating - sweat!" says Dr. Mark Westphal, a dermatologist in Carbondale. "The primary function of sweat is to cool off. Sweat is mostly our body's way of regulating temperature." A natural lubricant that prevents dry skin , the amount of sweat produced depends upon the number o...

Cindy McClure, who works her aesthetic magic at Washington firm Grossmueller 's Design, is one of the US' top interior designers . Here she answers questions about renovating bathrooms ...  I'd like to remodel my very small master bathroom by removing the tub and replacing it with a walk-in shower. Will this affect selling potential down the road? What I am finding is that more owners are looking for more luxurious showers rather than tubs in the master. In speaking with real estate agents that I know, so long as there is another bathroom with a tub, it doesn't hurt resale and can even help to have a great shower. We have a bathroom without a fan. It has a window, but we never open it (it's in the shower - that is the last place I'd want to open a window). I always see framed artwork in bathrooms in shelter magazines. How practical is this in rooms with ...
