Floor to ceiling shower tile

Image
The majority of people don’t have huge bathrooms but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your relatively small bathroom to feel larger with some creative interior design . There are several ways that you can make the best use of space in your bathroom to make it appear larger than it actually is. Doing so gives you an improved bathing and showering experience and makes your bathroom more appealing to visitors, or to potential buyers if you are selling your home. The skill of effective tiling The act of tiling a shower unit from the floor right the way to the ceiling is enough in itself to give an aura of space as it draws the eye. You can build on this effect by using larger tiles. This creates a more expansive design effect . You may think that you need to use a pale tile color to improve your shower space but this isn’t necessarily the case, you can get the effect of extra space just as easily with a darker shade. If you want to break up the space you can do so by using different s...

Sadly, shower caddy is a fallen angle

February 13, 1999 | By ROB KASPER EVERY HOME REPAIR guy likes to admire a job well-done. Gazing at a successfully completed project gives him a feeling of pride, a sense of accomplishment. Then there is the other end of the spectrum, the job you botched. It is an embarrassment. It reminds you of your limitations. Every time you walk past it, you look down at your shoes, or in my case recently, down at my bare feet. I botched the shower caddy job . Instead of standing up straight in the corner of the bathroom shower , providing a stable home for bars of soap and bottles of hair care products , my shower caddy is a slouch. It should have the erect posture of the Washington Monument. But mine has the Tower of Pisa lean. I bought the device at a shop that sells bathroom accessories . It is a piece of plastic molded into two triangular-shaped shelves. In theory, the device should fit snugly into the corner of a shower, attaching itself with several adhesive pads to the shower walls. At the...

Choosing a Bathroom Layout | HGTV

When designing a bathroom, the key is to look beyond this space. Does the style blend with the rest of your house? Now, keep in mind, you don’t have to be matchy-matchy and blending doesn’t have to be boring. But if your door knobs and hardware throughout the home are oil-rubbed bronze and you choose nickel for a hall bathroom, the change in finish could be distracting to the eye. Same goes for color scheme, except for the powder room, where drama reigns. If the master bedroom walls are painted a cheery yellow and you go for a burgundy wine colored bathroom , the jarring contrast will create a choppy feel, not the smooth transition you’re after. Unless you plan on renovating the bedroom and changing the colors there, you want an adjacent bathroom design to go with the flow. “If the bathroom is part of a master bedroom, it needs to tie in with color or texture—something,” says Eileen Kollias, designer/owner, Eileen Kollias Design , Boston, Mass. “If the bathroom is in the hallway a...

Disability hacks for the Bathroom

Image
As Disability Hacks for the Kitchen was so popular I’ve put together another one for the bathroom, Disability Hacks for the Bathroom. This is a list of things that I have found useful over the years. Some were suggested to me by OT while others I have stumbled upon (probably literally!) myself. Disclaimer: This post has affiliate links to products that I will earn a small commission through if you are to buy anything. Please note that this does NOT affect the price that you pay as I am compensated by the company. If you do decide to purchase anything through my links, thank you. The commission helps to cover the costs of running my blog.  Use a bath or shower seat. I have both. Originally I had a shower seat put into my ensuite tiny shower . It’s fixed to the wall and can be pulled down for when I need it while the others in the house simply leave it against the wall. My shower seat is similar to this one with pull out legs so that it feels more secure under my weight. It is wall mou...

Pro Tips for Choosing Bathroom Fixtures

Image
When I moved in, my bathroom was outfitted with basic builder grade components that never really went together and to top it all off, they never really worked properly. I just made do with what I had, but over time, I knew I’d have to renovate this space and make it my own. To make the bathroom magic happen , we’ve partnered with TOTO, the Japanese manufacturer  behind those infamous toilets that do everything for you, and to help bring it all together we’ve brought in online interior design platform , Decorilla, specifically, designer Joyce Elizabeth Tranchida . It’s embarrassing to show these but here’s what I’ve been living with… (sad, I know): I hate the glass hand towel light fixture so much I haven’t even replaced the bulb that’s out! The toilet is so basic it doesn’t even have a brand. My basic, boring bathroom needed some modernization, and a brand-new cohesive look as it’s the only bathroom in my home. If you’ve ever looked around at finished bathrooms, you know just how mu...
