In early July, 2017, the Pittsburgh Zoo posted an adorable video of their 5-month-old elephant calf receiving her first bath via hose and kiddie pool. In the video, a zoo worker sprayed water from a hose onto the big baby’s head, prompting her to lift her floppy ears up and down. The happy calf then knelt down in the kiddie pool to submerge her body before walking out to stick her trunk out at the camera. Later, she returned to the pool again and drank a few sips from the bathwater. Once I decided to start having kids, I knew there were going to be some major changes in my life and I was prepared to let some things go and kind of “role with the punches.” What I didn’t realize is that motherhood was going to completely knock me on my butt and all my so called “needs” would become secondary or nonexistent. If I managed to get my little one to sleep and not pass out myself, it often came down to a choice of eat, sleep, completely zone out or shower.
