Itchy Beard: Rash, Remedies, and Growth

Whether you’re growing out your beard for the first time or have had one for years, it’s common for the hair on your face to get itchy. Beard itching can be mild, and sometimes you may barely notice it. Other times, every inch seems to itch. It can wake you up in the middle of the night or distract you from important events in your life. Beard hair isn ’t like the hair on your head. It’s called androgenic hair , which means that it’s growth is driven mainly by your testosterone. More testosterone causes more growth and thickness of these hairs. Because of this, you need to take care of your beard differently than other hair on your body. The cause of an itchy beard can range from a minor to a more serious infection: Growing out your facial hair When you shave, you leave a sharp edge on the end of each hair inside its follicle, the tiny tube that contains and shields each hair. When the hair grows out, this sharp edge can scratch the follicle, causing it to itch. When you’re growing out...

Disability hacks for the Bathroom

Image
As Disability Hacks for the Kitchen was so popular I’ve put together another one for the bathroom, Disability Hacks for the Bathroom. This is a list of things that I have found useful over the years. Some were suggested to me by OT while others I have stumbled upon (probably literally!) myself. Disclaimer: This post has affiliate links to products that I will earn a small commission through if you are to buy anything. Please note that this does NOT affect the price that you pay as I am compensated by the company. If you do decide to purchase anything through my links, thank you. The commission helps to cover the costs of running my blog.  Use a bath or shower seat. I have both. Originally I had a shower seat put into my ensuite tiny shower . It’s fixed to the wall and can be pulled down for when I need it while the others in the house simply leave it against the wall. My shower seat is similar to this one with pull out legs so that it feels more secure under my weight. It is wall mou...

New Delta Faucet Study Unveils Americans’ Bathroom Behaviors

INDIANAPOLIS , July 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Would it surprise you to know that one in five adults leaves the washroom without washing their hands? The busiest room in the house may also be the least efficient, according to a recent study conducted by Delta Faucet(1). The popular faucet brand recently teamed up with Savvy Mommy® Victoria Pericon to launch a nationwide survey to uncover Americans ' bathroom behaviors . According to the survey, nearly 75 percent of households have at most two bathrooms, which each person uses more than 5-10 times each day. Recent U.S. Census data shows the average American household has 2.6 residents, meaning those rooms are visited 13-26 times daily. Suffice it to say, the bathroom is one of the most frequented places in the whole house. "People forget that the bathroom is an integral part of their at-home experience," said family lifestyle expert Savvy Mommy® Victoria Pericon . "Whether it serves as a private sanctuary for mom,...

Pro Tips for Choosing Bathroom Fixtures

Image
When I moved in, my bathroom was outfitted with basic builder grade components that never really went together and to top it all off, they never really worked properly. I just made do with what I had, but over time, I knew I’d have to renovate this space and make it my own. To make the bathroom magic happen , we’ve partnered with TOTO, the Japanese manufacturer  behind those infamous toilets that do everything for you, and to help bring it all together we’ve brought in online interior design platform , Decorilla, specifically, designer Joyce Elizabeth Tranchida . It’s embarrassing to show these but here’s what I’ve been living with… (sad, I know): I hate the glass hand towel light fixture so much I haven’t even replaced the bulb that’s out! The toilet is so basic it doesn’t even have a brand. My basic, boring bathroom needed some modernization, and a brand-new cohesive look as it’s the only bathroom in my home. If you’ve ever looked around at finished bathrooms, you know just how mu...

Economical routines mean UK bath and shower sales decline

This is not a completely negative thing , as consumers are also making the choice to use less water, but the sector is being hit by the desire to save money. According to a new Mintel report, the soap, bath and shower category has experienced declining sales over the past two years, falling from £660 million (€911m) in 2012 to an estimated £638 million (€881m) in 2014. The market researcher says this is down to consumers seeking more economical routines and saving money; and in some cases, as these routines may be greener, they also appeal. “Consumers have started to realise that being environmentally friendly can translate to money-saving and are making greener choices to benefit their own pockets,” says Charlotte Libby, Senior Beauty Analyst at Mintel. “ Changing consumer perceptions of taking a bath as being more costly or time-consuming than showering is essential to restore sales growth to the bath products segment .” Changing habits Mintel data shows that whilst one in five...
