8 Of The Best Ways To Use Vinegar To Clean Your Bathroom

Image
It’s not exactly news that white vinegar is a great safe and natural cleaner for all kinds of surfaces. But today I wanted to talk about one place that vinegar is particularly useful – the bathroom! Bathrooms are a gathering place for all sorts of hard-to-clean messes, but you can tackle almost all of them with the help of vinegar! The high acidity level of vinegar helps loosen mineral deposits (such as lime & rust) and dissolve soap scum , making it perfect for bathroom cleaning ! And because it is so acidic, it creates a “hostile” environment for many microorganisms, making it a powerful disinfect as well. A 1997 study in the Journal of Environmental Health showed that undiluted vinegar was just as effective as bleach in eliminating E. coli from surfaces and sponges. It’s also incredibly effective at deodorizing  and cutting grease . Now that’s cleaning POWER! Here are 8 of my very favorite ways to use vinegar in the bathroom. 8 Ways To Use Vinegar In Your Bathroom Clean ...

Pro Tips for Choosing Bathroom Fixtures

Image
When I moved in, my bathroom was outfitted with basic builder grade components that never really went together and to top it all off, they never really worked properly. I just made do with what I had, but over time, I knew I’d have to renovate this space and make it my own. To make the bathroom magic happen , we’ve partnered with TOTO, the Japanese manufacturer  behind those infamous toilets that do everything for you, and to help bring it all together we’ve brought in online interior design platform , Decorilla, specifically, designer Joyce Elizabeth Tranchida . It’s embarrassing to show these but here’s what I’ve been living with… (sad, I know): I hate the glass hand towel light fixture so much I haven’t even replaced the bulb that’s out! The toilet is so basic it doesn’t even have a brand. My basic, boring bathroom needed some modernization, and a brand-new cohesive look as it’s the only bathroom in my home. If you’ve ever looked around at finished bathrooms, you know just how mu...

News - There's probably bacteria in your water bottle. Here's why

Find Your Forecast Joanne Richard Special to The Weather Network Wednesday, August 9, 2017, 5:07 PM - About to brush your teeth? Put that toothbrush down!  If you store your toothbrush within six feet of a toilet, those bristles are likely harbouring fecal bacteria ! Add to that the fact that they’re also packed with microbes from the mouth.   Toothbrushes aren’t the only items where germs fester! Water bottles and our mobile devices are mega magnets for microbes and bacteria that can spell trouble. A new study indicates that drinking from a reusable water bottle “can be many times worse than licking your dog’s toy.” TreadmillReviews.net reports that refillable bottles are crawling with bacteria, some potentially harmful. “Water bottles can accumulate all sorts of germs. Most are from our own mouths and do not pose a threat. But some are opportunistic pathogens, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Methicillin- resistant Staphylococcus aureus , and a group known as fecal coliforms can b...

Updating the Master Bathroom with a New Delta Faucet!

Image
As soon as we moved into our house, almost 5 years ago, we hit the DIY projects hard . New flooring, replacement of appliances, painting, etc. We thought our house was “move in ready”, but as first time home buyers , we now know it wasn’t so “move in ready”. One update in our home that we have put off for years, updating the master bathroom. Being tucked away in the back of the house, our master bathroom definitely needed some attention.   I love our master bathroom! It’s wide open, two sinks for his and her, a big walk-in closet, tall vaulted ceilings and plenty of room for two people to get ready at the same time. There are several updates that we have really been wanting to make. The cabinet hardware doesn ’t look it’s best in the gold plated style , the lights above the mirror are something from the 90’s, and our biggest priority, the bathroom sinks really needs an update. Our faucets are old, corroded and the stoppers inside of the sink were so eaten up, when we moved in, that we...

How to Repair or Replace a Mobile Home Bathtub Faucet

As a space-saving measure, the bathtub faucets in mobile homes and large RVs often use a single-body design in which the tub spout and hot- and cold-water handles are incorporated into a single unit. Mobile home tub faucets can be mounted either on the wall or to the side of the tub, as is often seen in older mobile homes . These tub faucets often have a diverter that can be pulled up to block the water in the spout and force it up into the shower head, which connects to the faucet via a separate pipe behind the wall. Mobile home tub faucets  come in many types, but replacing one is fairly easy if you buy a new one that matches the hole configuration that is already present. There are tub faucets for holes 4" on-center or 8" on-center--the measurement from the center of the hot water pipe to the center of the cold water pipe . Also, the point where the tub spout extends can be offset, or it can be in line with the hot and cold water supply pipes . Repairing a leak in a mo...

How to Remove and Install a Bathroom Faucet

Image
This tutorial will show you not only how to remove and install a bathroom faucet (it’s not as hard as you might think!), but it will also show you a way to change from a three-hole faucet to a single. One option for this switch is to use a deck plate, which is included with many faucets. While this tutorial shows a different strategy for what happens with the faucet on top of the countertop (check out this article on creating a faux marble countertop for details), the method of hooking up the water for the plumbing will be the same. Let’s get started. View in gallery (You can also check out this tutorial for removing and installing a kitchen sink faucet .) View in gallery Start by turning off the water under your bathroom sink. Have a bucket handy, because you will have some water leak out when you go to unhook the hoses. View in gallery Turn off both the hot and the cold water valves . Also, while you’re down here, unhook the sink stopper. View in gallery Pull the sink stopper out so...
