Cuthbert, Escobar lead Royals to 7-4 victory over Indians

Published: Sunday, August 20, 2017 @ 5:32 PM Updated: Sunday, August 20, 2017 @ 5:31 PM Kansas City — It took the bottom of a makeshift lineup filled with mostly with backups for the Kansas City Royals to finally put some runs on the board against the Cleveland Indians . Jorge Bonifacio had three hits to start rallies, fill-in third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert homered and drove in three runs, and Alcides Escobar also had three RBIs to help the Royals to a 7-4 victory Sunday and avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the AL Central leaders . "We knew we had to get this one," said Bonifacio, who started for Alex Gordon in left field. Backup catcher Cam Gallagher also drove in a run for the Royals, who finally got their bats going after scoring just once in the first two games of the series. Kansas City piled up 12 hits and six runs off Cleveland starter Danny Salazar (5-6), and finished with 15 hits for the day. "The bottom of the lineup was tremendous," said Ro...

My incredible trip through Thailand (via Oman!)

CAIRO -21 August 2017: If you’ve always dreamt of travelling to Thailand, then you’ll be compelled to book your flights after reading about new Disability Horizons contributor , Leah S.F’s amazing journey. A harsh winter had been predicted and the thought of complete restriction by layers of clothes and potential snow filled me with dread. So I decided it was time to take an adventure to the land of smiles, Thailand . Not the most obvious holiday destination for someone with SMA type 2, a traveller who uses a power wheelchair , a portable shower chair and mobile hoist. But uninterrupted sun for 101 days was what my body required, so a long haul destination was looking to be the only option. I was to travel with my two PAs, one of whom would go his own way once we reached Pattaya, and then meet us again towards to end of the holiday for the flight home. So with our 90-day visas in place for Thailand, travel vaccination against Hepatitis A+B (insist on both if you’re making the sam...

A thrilling walk on the wild side among the Big Five

I used to love long road trips where I would stare through the car window at the hypnotising landscape. I’d only wake at the next toilet stop for snacks for the rest of the trip ahead and continue the same nap exercise all over again. Nowadays, my patience for sitting in the same position for anything longer than one hour is waning. However, the scenic drive to the Mountain Zebra National Park (MZNP) brought back my childhood memories. SANParks invited the media to view the park and the new accommodation set to open next month. I was already excited as I boarded the afternoon flight from OR Tambo International Airport to Port Elizabeth since I had never been to the Eastern Cape port city before. The flight took just over an hour. On arrival, after picking up a minivan rental, we began the two-and-a-half-hour journey to Cradock and from there, the final 25km lap to the MZNP. © Provided by The Star PEACEFUL: The cottages at the Mounain Zebra National Park .
