Bathroom Design Ideas: New Lighting, Shower, and Fixture Trends

Image
Spa-like details such as glass tile and soothing colors are a trend in home bathrooms, as in this one by interior designer Lori Graham . When it comes to the latest in bathrooms, spa- inspired spaces rule . Goodbye, fussy details. Hello, Zen oasis. “Turning your bathroom into something you might see at a luxury resort is really big right now,” says Shannon Kadwell, a designer for Anthony Wilder Design/Build in Cabin John. Spa-like details range from showers with multiple body sprays and rainfall “water tiles” to walls bedecked with dazzling glass tile . But the trend goes beyond finishes and fixtures. “In years prior, a bathroom was just a shower, a toilet, and a sink,” Kadwell says. “The modern bathroom is a multi-function room with separate areas.” Think distinct but connected spaces designated for cleaning, changing, relaxing, and even admiring the scenery. A house’s master suite, she says, has become a living space in which the bathroom and bedroom are connected via dressing are...

10 Easy Design Touches for your Master Bathroom

However, the bathroom remodels needed to create these relaxing retreats are often long and expensive. But, they don’t need to be. Take a look at some easy design touches that will leave your master bath feeling like new with little effort. The vanity is often one of first things to catch your eye when entering a bathroom. If yours is looking a little outdated, think about switching it out. Many home improvement stores stock standalone varieties that come already assembled for easy installation. 5 Ways To Make Your Bathroom Feel Like a Spa

Image
You know those bathrooms you see on Pinterest that look so inviting and tidy? I always find myself pinning them, but I believe you can actually make the most of any space as long as you aren’t afraid to get creative. Little décor fixes and a few spa-like products are all you need to create a bathroom oasis you’ll want to primp and relax in. How to Transform Your Bathroom into a Spa 1. Swap out the lights. Let’s start with one of the bigger fixes. Simply put, bathroom lighting can be very unflattering – which makes no sense! You obviously want to do your hair and makeup (not to mention step out of the shower) in at least somewhat flattering light. If you can, I’d suggest swapping out the vanity lights or overhead for something a little more luxurious. Wayfair , Overstock.com , and One Kings Lane all have unique lighting options at surprising prices. 2. Purge and replace textiles. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a lot less expensive to replace even ALL of your towels, washcloths,...

Remodel | Master Bedroom + Bathroom

Image
After Before The Original Floorplan Last June, Jeremy and I started the process of remodeling the second floor of our home. There were lots of things that bothered me about the original layout, and you can probably discern a lot of them from the “before” pictures, more of which you can see in West Elm’s post here. Originally, the second floor had a master bedroom , tiny master bathroom , and a weird tiny bedroom that could only fit a twin size bed and had a weird area where the eaves of the roof slanted down to the ground making it almost impossible to keep anything there. The master bathroom consisted of a small crappy plastic tube -shaped shower, a vanity, and the toilet. The shower was the bane of my existence, because the way it was built and assembled left all these little gaps in the plastic pieces  in it that were impossible to get to with cleaning brush, so mold would just grow between the cracks, and the rubber lining along the shower door where the plastic sheets touched k...
