Today's master bath suites have it all

One of the most desired rooms in newly built homes and in additions to existing homes is the master bath suite . A master bath suite is defined as a bathroom that is directly connected to a master bedroom . The master bath suite provides privacy because it is never accessed through common areas like kitchens or hallways. Prominent since the 1950s, but especially popular in today's modern homes, the master bath suite has truly come of age. Terry Kenney, president of the Chicago-Midwest Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association , believes the master bath suite is a necessity for busy couples. "The master bath suite provides efficient use of a bathroom/closet space by providing all the necessary storage for clothing, shoes, linens and personal grooming items in one room, separate from the bedroom. Some homeowners have installed under-counter refrigeration and a coffee maker. If space allows, laundry facilities or exercise areas a...

How to Organize a Bath Safety Remodel -- HME Business

How to Organize a Bath Safety Remodel Jul 01, 2009 Bath safety is a key element of home access. Simply put, patients of all sorts need to use the bathroom throughout the day. But for bariatric, geriatric and mobility patients, bathing can pose both frustration and safety hazards . For instance, stepping into a shower stall or tub poses the risk of falls for geriatric and bariatric patients , and for mobility patients, bathing comes with even more complications due to their mobility limitations. And if bathing complications result in reduced frequency of bathing, this can mean that a patient risks hygiene issues that can cause sores and infections. This is especially a concern with bariatric patients , who are sometimes left with sponge baths as their only real bathing options . Fortunately, HME providers are in a position to help. There is a multiplicity of bath safety offerings available to help them ensure patients of all stripes are able to bathe safely. The key is to get started...

Thousands treated in ER for frightening symptoms as use of 'bath salts' and synthetic marijuana rockets

By Daily Mail Reporter Updated: 21:39 BST, 6 April 2011 1 View comments Thousands of Americans are arriving at ER with frightening symptoms after taking apparently harmless - and increasingly popular - synthetic drugs. The drugs, legal in many states, are marketed as 'soothing' bath salts or incense and can be bought for as little as $10 a time. Will Bath dare to become the first UK city with a ‘tourist tax’? | Travel

T he “tourist tax” is one of those ideas that everyone agrees is great – and then quietly drops. But now the historic city of Bath might take the plunge and become the first place in the UK to implement one. With the city’s council facing £37m of cuts in the next five years, it is considering an extra charge for overnight visitors to Bath, a local councillor has told the BBC. Outside the UK, such tourist taxes flourish – from the Balearic Islands to Rome, Amsterdam and Paris. But while cities such as Edinburgh, Birmingham, Brighton and London – as well as Cornwall – have all toyed with the idea of cashing in on the tourists who flock to them, none has seen it through. This is despite the fact that a 2007 commission into local government funding recommended a tourist tax, while a 2012 commission set up by Boris Johnson when he was London Mayor said there was a “powerful argument for a levy”. One reason local authorities are reluctant is that no one wants to be the first. David James...

Philosophy Graceful Journey Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel Net Profits Go to Help Women with Cancer

Image
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Philosophy has made a wonderful effort to support it by donating all the net profits from its Graceful Journey Shampoo , Bath, & Shower Gel ($25, philosophy.com) to Look Good Feel Better. This program helps those affected by cancer with the appearance- related side effects that can often be detrimental to people’s self-esteem. There’s about a week left in October, which still gives everyone plenty of time to support cancer-related efforts. Also, I believe Philosophy will keep selling the shower gel and donating the net profits. And remember, no matter what day, week, or month it is, it’s always a good time (and good for the soul!) to support worthwhile causes and do what you can to help out others. What is Look Good Feel Better? Look Good Feel Better helps instruct women on how to deal with the appearance- related side effects of cancer treatment. The history is quite touching. In 1987, a physician had a patient who was so devastate...

Contemporary and Convenient: 2016 Kitchen and Bathroom Design Trends

Image
By Tim Blackwell | Feb 3, 2016 America’s kitchens and baths continue to be a little bit country and a little bit city, with built-in conveniences that extend to the family pet. Transitional styles dominate bath, kitchen trends for 2016 with room for pets Transitional-style architecture and neutral colors were popular in 2015 and are expected to remain in vogue this year, according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association ’s (NKBA) annual survey. Also, simplified storage in both rooms, plus pet access in kitchens, are in demand. Bridging the gap between classic and contemporary, transitional designs are moving the needle from what’s been more modern design in recent years. Contemporary looks still remain desirable in bathrooms, but kitchens are reflecting various styles that include the past and present, and even industrial and farmhouse looks. Color-wise, neutrals remain the colors of choice, and two-tone designs are adding flavor t...

Choosing a Bathroom Layout | HGTV

When designing a bathroom, the key is to look beyond this space. Does the style blend with the rest of your house? Now, keep in mind, you don’t have to be matchy-matchy and blending doesn’t have to be boring. But if your door knobs and hardware throughout the home are oil-rubbed bronze and you choose nickel for a hall bathroom, the change in finish could be distracting to the eye. Same goes for color scheme, except for the powder room, where drama reigns. If the master bedroom walls are painted a cheery yellow and you go for a burgundy wine colored bathroom , the jarring contrast will create a choppy feel, not the smooth transition you’re after. Unless you plan on renovating the bedroom and changing the colors there, you want an adjacent bathroom design to go with the flow. “If the bathroom is part of a master bedroom, it needs to tie in with color or texture—something,” says Eileen Kollias, designer/owner, Eileen Kollias Design , Boston, Mass. “If the bathroom is in the hallway a...
