Okay, okay hear me out - I know technically the above phrase is used in December but for me I find the whole Autumn/Winter to be rather exciting. I enjoy the run up to Halloween, Guy Fawkes night , St.Andrews night and of course advent then Christmas. I honestly thought by the time I hit my twenties I'd have out grown this phase. Nope not even close, I still look forward to the crunchy leaves, chilly weather and al...

Shower Wall Tiles and Remodeling Your Bathroom

<?xml encoding="UTF-8"???><?xml encoding="UTF-8"???> Aside from installing flooring in your bathroom, perhaps the second most significant influence on the look and feel of your bathroom is the wall tiles in your bathroom. And just like choosing the right ceramic tiles for your bathroom walls, choosing the right tiles for your shower are the just as important. Should your Bathroom tiles and Shower Tiles all be the same? Most people will choose the same type of bathroom tiles as they do for the shower. This gives the look and feel of the room as though it is one continuous room with no break up. However, did you know that you can mix it up a little and add a little more color in one part without taking away much from the room on the whole? You can...and should. The key is to stay in the same color hues but not the exact same color. There is another more practical reason to using different bathroom tiles . Glazed ceramic tiles work better for the walls th...

Disability and Disabilities: What does a person on wheelchair do if he cannot find a wheelchair accessible washroom?

Whatever one has to do...  Exact options vary depending on the nature of the disability (as always) and what one needs to 'do' / how one does it..... (Warning - explicit function details follow ...) Speaking as a male with a spinal cord injury - I have no control over bowel function , and need to use a catheter for urination. Bowel issues are a mixed bag, mostly not relevant if we are lucky, (or not).  A big part of rehab post-injury is learning 'Bowel Program' which amounts to training ones body to do a movement on demand (with or without needing chemical / mechanical stimulation) and essentially 'cleaning out the system' so as not to need to go until the next planned session...  It works most of the time, and if not there is an 'accident' requiring a change of clothing and other cleanup...  I carry an 'emergency kit' in my car with a change of clothes, baby wipes, etc, but usually it is easier for me to go home so I can shower.  This is espec...

Make the Most of your Bathroom with our Top Design Tips

The key to designing a bathroom is to keep it clean and simple. Read on for our interior design tips ! Make a scale drawing of the room and play around with the various positions of the bath, shower, loo and basin. Beware of non-matching sanitaryware because, even if all the fittings are white, the shades can vary dramatically. While they can be impractical, corner and offset baths can sometimes make good use of space and remember you can choose where to position taps. In a room too small for a separate shower , you can still create a good showering experience by fitting a good quality shower door to the bath. Ideally, every bath needs a bath/shower mixer with a hose attachment to clean it and for washing hair. I'd be wary of substituting a shower for a bath in a one-bathroom property, though stand-alone shower rooms work well as a second bathroom option. A bathroom is one area where you can really release your design dreams but, if  you're planning on ever selling, the key ...

Wilderness cottage and tiny pod in Donegal from €200k

Image
A traditional Irish cottage and a thoroughly modern pod house on the Wild Atlantic Way in Co Donegal are for sale – and the buyer will have to be someone who loves remote locations , says owner Greg Stevenson . The Escape – the cottage – and CroPod – a modular home beside it – are being sold together, with Stevenson looking for offers of over €200,000 through ilovedonegal@gmail.com. The Escape, Glencolmcille, Co Donegal The Escape is a whitewashed cottage on the road to the deserted village of Port, Co Donegal, about 15km from Glencolmcille. Greg, an architectural historian, moved there from Wales with his husband Lukasz a decade ago and lived there for three years. Since then they have rented it out along with the pod home they built into the hillside, which Stevenson describes as “an underground shelter flooded with light, lined with oak, overlooking a coastal mountain lake ”. CroPod, Glencolmcille, Co Donegal Together, the properties yield a gross income of around €30,000 a yea...

The bathroom had a jacuzzi/shower combo that was... - Review of Inn at Glendyer

The Glendyer exceeded our expectations, even after reading the sort of reviews below. Everything I can think of to say has been well said elsewhere on these pages. I would only add that if you want to maximize the musical experience, be prepared to stay up late; things around here really start happening around 10 pm. Jill had some great advice on where to go to catch some music, as well as hiking and sightseeing in other places on Cape Breton. We spent 5 nights at the Glendyer. Every breakfast was good and a little different, and we got to meet a variety of people. The road is wide and had been recently graded, so there were no potholes.
